About Freya
With a degree in Textile Print Design from WSA, Freya’s path to painting full time has its foundation in playing with pattern and colour and this still comes through in her paintings today.
Living in rural Berkshire, Freya has a home studio where she experiments with ideas, mainly working in heavy bodied acrylics, oil pastels and oil sticks.
Inspiration comes from her love of colour, folk art and playing with composition in still life. Her paintings use vibrant playful colours and play with perspective with elements of pattern and 2D imagery.
Freya’s decorated pieces pull from the traditions of folk art, and she draws inspiration from generations of folk painters before her. Her landscapes are a vibrant mix of colour and line, a lens through which she views the world. Freya’s still life works are about finding balance and exaggeration of colour and scale and her whimsical/imagined pieces are her most playful and experimental.
Freya’s paintings are built up with many layers of bright colour glowing through from previous layers. The layering and glimpses of under colours are an integral part of her work as she is interested in the many layers that make up the stories of not only people but the objects they choose to surround themselves with. Freya’s paintings also explore the way landscapes are very gradually changing and are manipulated by man and working in layers of paint and colour are used to explore this play of time.
Freya works as a full-time as artist, selling work both locally and internationally.
